19th International Conference "Advances in Automotive Electronics"

Full House

Delegates to the 19th International Congress Advances in Automotive Electronics agreed upon the point that this congress was attended not only by top-class lectures but also excellent networking opportunities for the E / E decision-makers in the automotive industry. Hence it was not surprising that this networking congress of the journal Automotive Electronics and the Süddeutsche Verlag Veranstaltungen was fully booked again this year.

At the very beginning Prof. Dr. Stefan Wrobel, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute IAIS, stated why adaptive cruise control is a Big Data topic and which opportunities Big Data would offer in the automotive industry. Next, Elmar Frickenstein Head of E /E at BMW told the audience how the transformation of the automotive industry looks like on the way into the 21st century. One of his credo is “Software and connectivity are the enablers for the automotive industry of the future – also for electromobility”.

Using the example of the VW Passat Dr. Volkmar Tanneberger, Head of E / E at Volkswagen showed how far digitization has progressed already in the volume segment. On the basis of the current model, he explained what has been done both in infotainment and ADAS, which allows the implemented Emergency Assist in the Passat strictly speaking already a fully automatic driving to a standstill.

Daimler’s E / E-director Harald Kröger pleaded in his lecture “Intelligent Electric Mobility” for the fun moment of electric vehicles to be put in front, but also gave a good overview of the subject and called on to cooperate more closely in the area of fuel cells. The representatives of seven OEMs took this summit of the E / E industry to deliver a joint statement surrounding the Combined Charging System for electric vehicles: Representatives of AUDI, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Opel, Porsche and Volkswagen went together on stage and answered questions after the presentation of more than 600 congress delegates.

The undoubted highlight at the evening event was the dinner speech by Urs Meier, ex-referee and one of the most famous soccer players in Switzerland. Around 550 people enjoyed the entertainment and deepened subsequently in new and existing contacts until late into the night.

Further details on the content of the lectures can be found in the next issue of the journal Automotive Electronics.
